What are Blended and Flipped Classrooms?
With the internet and electronic devices becoming such a prominent force in education, different ideas of education have come into play. Along with PBL, blended and flipped classrooms are becoming more common in schools. Both elements can be seen already in our district, but here are definitions and resources that will make you more familiar with them.
Blended Classroom: Having students work online while still in a traditional school building. Students might complete assignments online and then continue extending the lesson in class with peers and instructor. Technology and traditional education complement each other to give the students different perspective and alternative ways of learning.
Flipped Classroom: Students will be introduced to a lesson away from the school and are responsible completing assignments online. They then discuss the lesson and work on large scale projects when they go back to school on certain days. Greater responsibility falls on the student to keep up with assignments online so that they can contribute when in school.
